International Education
The Challenge
Three concepts are underscored by modern education for science and engineering: Student Centered, Outcome-based Education and Continuous Quality Improvement. Students, as the primary stakeholder of learning, should be provided with more freedom in decision of curriculum, method of teaching, and time of study. The efficacy of education should be measured by the outcome of learning, rather than process of teaching. All aspects of the learning process should have effective assessment, and be properly evaluated, so that improvement plan can be made and actions can be taken. Also, traditional experiments are often challenged by problems such as lacking of experimental resources, involving hazardous or extreme conditions, cost prohibitive for consumable materials and repetitions, difficulty in large scale and comprehensive training, just to name a few. In the era of globalization, workforce of the next generation also needs to obtain international vision from education. All these put high demands for the deep integration between information technology and education.
