Creative Economy
The Challenge
The UNESCO Creative Cities Network (UCCN) was created in 2004 to promote cooperation with and among cities that have identified creativity as a strategic factor for sustainable urban development. As of 2020, there are 14 Chinese cities and 6 Colombian cities in the UCCN. There are big potential for these cities to cooperate actively at the international level. The two countries are also working together to promote creative economy, or “Orange Economy”in the fields of art and design, urban planning, innovation, architecture and tourism, biology, agriculture, public health, environment, alternative energy, robotics, new materials and advanced manufacturing. Such collaborations calls for strong support of digitization and digital creation technologies.
Our Solution
We research and develop digitization techniques which recreate physical materials in the virtual world with fine details in realism. Such materials span from music to heritage artifacts. Digitization makes precious creations like traditional art pieces more accessible to citizens. It also helps cultural industries to provide goods and/or services that can be mass reproduced and disseminated. Besides digitization, we use technology to build tools that automate the making of new media and content software, improving productivity in the industry by the order of magnitudes. In both China and Colombia, we work side by side with not only institutions that are strong in science, technology and engineering, but also institutions that are prestigious in art and design. Our network provides a great platform for “Art + Technology”projects.
Differences made by us
Milestones
We have digitized traditional Chinese characters, the Chimes instrument from ancient China and its music, and create digital museums in several fields of Chinese and Colombian culture.
Impacts
A first virtual music concert, in which musicians play Chimes and Marimba together on a virtual stage, was made possible through our work.
