Connected Universal Experiences Labs

The 21st China Virtual Reality Conference (ChinaVR 2021), co-sponsored by Chinese Society of Image and Graphics, Chinese Society for Simulation and Chinese Society of Computer Science, was held in Nanchang, Jiangxi Province from October 17 to 20, 2021. More than 400 virtual reality research and industry experts and scholars from all over the country attended the conference.

Congress President professor Wang Chong day said in his speech at the conference will revolve around “production integration, promote the development of virtual reality will jointly explore the frontier technology progress of virtual reality, the key technology and prospect of technology innovation, industry development and popularization applications of” bring all attendees from several aspects, such as at home and abroad of various new proposition, new method and new thinking. Digital Twin network is one of the basic bases for the development of virtual reality, is the third generation of Internet application platform, can be the depth of virtual reality technology application. It includes four layers of standard and normative framework including data manipulation, modeling and simulation, common service and application demonstration. Through the digital twin network, the real data and prediction/control can be used for two-way interaction between product physical state and virtual object to realize value. However, to promote the development of virtual reality technology, there are still challenges such as deep fidelity, interactive/evolvable model, intelligent automatic modeling, multi-source data perception and fusion.

The report “Focusing on Virtual Reality Key Generic Technology Collaborative Innovation — Construction and Development of Virtual Reality Innovation Center in Jiangxi Province” made by President Sun Qimin deeply analyzed the history, current situation and trend of virtual reality industry, and reviewed the key nodes of virtual reality industry in Jiangxi Province. The collaborative innovation achievements and practices of many key technologies researched by Jiangxi VR Innovation Center are introduced one by one.

Academician Wang Yaonan presented a report on “Application and Development Trend of Machine Vision Technology”. He detailed analysis of the development of machine vision background and significance, domestic and foreign research status, key technologies and applications and future development trends. He pointed out that in this field, foreign companies dominate the industry, while domestic companies lack competitiveness to focus on system integration, but are gradually promoting upstream product research and development. Machine vision has problems such as reliability and accuracy, image processing speed, product versatility and multi-sensor fusion, but it has been widely used and has the basis of industrialization.

Led by the State Key Laboratory of Virtual Reality Technology and Systems and the University of Santiago de Cali, Colombia, the China-Colombia Zhiwang Internet Laboratory was established in 2019 to conduct joint research on issues of common concern between China and Latin American countries. Professor Luo Xun said, “In recent years, economic and trade cooperation between China and Latin America has witnessed rapid development, which has also led to scientific and technological cooperation between the two sides. Colombia is a good example. Both China and Latin American countries regard the digital economy as an important pole of economic growth and a priority in planning and development. This has laid a good foundation for cooperation between China and Latin America in the field of digital technology.”

Luo Xun introduced that Latin American countries along the Belt and Road have a high penetration rate and usage rate of social networks, and the public is not unfamiliar with the progress of virtual reality technologies such as digital twin and metaverse. In addition, China and Latin America are highly complementary in language, culture and application issues.
